Our History

Brown's Guardian Pharmacy in Walkerton, Ontario has been in business serving this community at this location for over 60 years. In 1947, Bill Brown and his wife Virginia, both pharmacists came to Walkerton. They purchased the already well-established Nyal Drugs from Harold Reed and renamed it Brown's. Bill and Virginia managed this progressive merchandising operation and were active and outgoing members of the community, all while raising six children.

One of their sons, Ken, worked at the store in his youth and graduated from the University of Toronto in Pharmacy in 1973. Ken followed in his father's footsteps with the same entrepreneurial spirit and in 1975 Ken and his wife Lynne purchased the business. The Browns have expanded the store five times over the years. The fall of 2013 proved to be a very exciting time for change at Brown's with another renovation. Brown's pharmacy is truly a unique and accessible feature of Downtown Walkerton for residents and visitors alike.

The Brown's are gradually transferring the Pharmacy to their new partner Ryan Fullerton. Ryan lives in Walkerton with his wife Jessica who is an optometrist. They have a young son, Benjamin.

Ken and Ryan and their staff are very interested in the well-being of people who live in this community. Health Screening Clinics and evening health seminars are scheduled in the store on a regular basis. Pharmacists also lead presentations about a variety of health topics through community outreach programs. As well, Brown's participates in many special events held throughout the year in the community and is well-known in the area as being a reliable retailer who is customer friendly.

Brown's is perpetually adapting to the needs of the community and looks forward to continuing to provide you with full pharmacy services. They are always delighted to meet with you to get to know you and provide you with the best possible service around. See the wide variety of items that each section of our store offers!
